To me the ones that can combine all their physical attributes to-gether with the least amount of problems are the hardest ones to make and fi nd. Q: What do you enjoy most about being involved in the swine industry? There are a lot of things I enjoy, however, the shows and the youth events throughout the country are at the top of the list. It allows us as a family to work together on the farm and not many other industries have that option.Breanna Lawyer, Fla. 2018 NJSA Southeast Regional JudgeQ: What is one important trait young indviduals can gain from showing?Confi dence. Regardless of what extra-curricular activities kids are involved in or what career they’re wanting to pursue, confi dence is extremely important. Q: What did you enjoy most about showing through NJSA?Meeting new people. I highly encourage kids to take advantage of this aspect of traveling to different shows. You never know what relationship could infl uence a college or career decision- don’t be afraid to pick the brains of industry leaders and ask questions. I’m not the only person that would say that mentors and clos-est friends have stemmed from a judging van or livestock show. Brock Herren, Okla. 2018 NJSA Southeast Regional JudgeQ: What are you looking for in your champion barrow?I am always searching for the kind that is hard to create. To me that kind isn’t the most extreme is one way or another but assembles unique things together with an undeniable completeness. I use fi ve basic priorities to help me select the good from the not so great, especially when it is a close call. Athleticism, stout-ness, Look, rib design and muscularity are those guidelines that I follow very closely! Q: What advice do you have for NJSA members?Get to know everyone! Use every livestock show, sporting event, or any gather-ing you attend to get to know the people who share your interests!
